Kaleb A. Brown

Intro

Welcome to my blog! It’s not much, but it’s mine, and sometimes having something of your own is good enough. With enough hard work and perseverance, though, I’m hoping this will turn out to be something that I can be proud of.

I’m Kaleb Andreall Brown, though if you feel like we’re beyond a legal-name basis, then call me Kaleb. You can read more about me here. I decided to make a blog because of this site. With all my work in one place, I have the potential to grow an audience. With an audience comes the need for consistent, creative output. I felt that the only way to guarantee a consistent stream of writing was to start a blog, since it’s probably the best ways to get writing out when I want it out.

Blogs come in all colors, shapes, and sizes - just knowing that I’m making a blog doesn’t tell you all that much. You’ll doubtless want to know what the plan is. Here’s where the terrifying and exciting part comes in - terrifying for you and exciting for me. It’s the type of thing you’d never want to hear your pilot say on a flight - “I don’t know where this thing is going.” Oh, sure, I have a general idea of what I’m posting over the next few months, but I don’t have an extensive roadmap. This is largely terra incognita. As far as subjects go, anything that interests me is fair game - depending on the person, my interests can either come across as extremely broad or quite niche. In terms of medium, I’m just as likely to post a short story or poem as I am a memoir, journalism piece, or review. Old works are as liable to show up as new ones. I consider myself a pretty varied writer and I intend for it to show in this blog. Really, the only constant here is me. I’m hoping that I’ll have a little bit of something for everyone. That’s why I decided to name this: The Brown Variety Hour.

It might be easier to talk about this blog in terms of what it won’t be. This won’t be a diary. We, as humans, have many faces, and this is simply the one I’m choosing to show for this blog. I’ll be truthful, but that’s not the same as 100% candid. Maybe I’ll be more forthcoming with different types of writing, but that’s no guarantee. Even if I do, online, blogger Kaleb is still different from irl, best friend Kaleb. Don’t worry though, diaries are messy affairs that only their writers have the necessary context to parse through. That said, you can still look forward to the occasional memoir.

This also won’t be a replacement for other publishing avenues; merely a supplement to them. I’ll be frank in making it clear that I’ll still be trying my damndest to get my work out through traditional publishing avenues; not doing so would be neglecting my career (and wallet). If you follow my blog, make sure to check the work page to see what else I’ve published. That said, I don’t want you all to think of this blog as just the “B-side.” Many of the things I published weren’t ever intended for publication elsewhere and a lot of the things I write will be specifically for the blog.

As far as the schedule goes, as of now, I intend to have at least two posts per month. When will those posts be? I’ll keep it a surprise. It’ll keep you on your toes (unless you subscribe of course).

Thank you for checking out my blog and I hope you stick around to see it grow!
